Our Citizenship Is in Heaven

An image with the cross made of wood, heaven in the background, and a couple looking up to the cross on a mountain. Their are flags from France, United, States, and Germany on the bottom right hand corner.

As Christians, our citizenship is in heaven—
not in a nation,
not in a political party,
not in any earthly system.

“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Philippians 3:20

This doesn’t mean we ignore the world we live in.
It means we don’t belong to it.

Called Out, Not Blended In

Jesus never called His followers to blend in with the world or fight the way the world fights.
He called us out of it—to be set apart, to live differently, and to keep eternity in view.

“They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.”
John 17:16

Our identity is not rooted in earthly power or cultural dominance.
It is rooted in Christ.

Our Mission Was Never Condemnation

The mission of the Church has never been to demean, divide, or condemn people that Christ willingly died for.

“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.”
John 3:17

Jesus did not come to win arguments.
He came to win souls.

When we forget this, we risk sounding more like the world than like Christ.

The Goal Has Always Been the Same

The goal has never changed:

  • Win souls
  • Build the Kingdom
  • Fill heaven

And to do it with humility, truth, grace, and love.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…”
Matthew 28:19

Notice the command is not dominate, humiliate, or conquer.
It is to make disciples.

How Will We Be Known?

May we be known not for how loud we argue,
but for how faithfully we love.

Not for how fiercely we defend earthly positions,
but for how boldly we point people to Jesus.

Our citizenship is in heaven.
Our loyalty is to Christ.
Our mission is eternal.
